Lived-in colour is designed to remain attractive as it grows rather than relying on a perfectly fresh root line. Highlights, lowlights, balayage, natural depth, toner and grey blending are placed in relationship to the haircut, skin tone and realistic maintenance plan.

James approaches colour as part of the complete shape. Brightness can emphasise movement and face framing; depth can strengthen a perimeter, create dimension and make the haircut read more clearly.

    The formula and process are adjusted to the existing canvas and condition.

    Dimension is refined and the result is viewed with the haircut finished so the complete design can be assessed.

Timing

Colour application time varies: quarter head about 30 minutes; half head 60 minutes; three-quarter head 75 minutes; full head 90 minutes, plus processing and finishing.

Maintenance

Lived-in placement may extend for several months; grey coverage, toner and higher-contrast work may need earlier maintenance. Your plan is discussed honestly.

01What does lived-in colour mean?+

It means placement and tone are designed to grow with a softer transition and remain visually coherent between visits.

02Is lived-in colour only for blondes?+

No. Brunettes, red tones and grey blending can all use controlled dimension and softer regrowth.

03Do I need a haircut with my colour?+

Not always, but planning both together produces the strongest relationship between placement, movement and shape.

04How often will I need colour?+

It depends on contrast, grey coverage, toner longevity and personal preference. Lived-in lightening often extends for months; root coverage usually requires a shorter cycle.

05Can you correct previous colour?+

A consultation is required. Correction may need more time, staged appointments or a plan that prioritises condition over an immediate final result.
