LONG + LONG LAYERED HAIRCUTS

Technique, texture and the finished shape.

THE DIFFERENCE

01

Shape without losing length

The perimeter, face frame and layering are designed together so the hair feels noticeably transformed without removing the length that matters to you.

02

Layers made for your density

Fine, thick, straight, wavy and curly hair require different architecture. Layer placement and weight removal are tailored to how your own hair falls and moves.

03

Movement that lasts

The shape is refined for longevity, versatile styling and a grow-out that continues to feel intentional rather than collapsing into generic long hair.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE

KNOW MORE.
CHOOSE BETTER.

Clear information for clients who want to understand the shape, technique, appointment and grow-out before booking.

01What it is+

Long hair can retain length while gaining a completely new shape. The perimeter, face frame, crown and internal layers must work together so movement does not come at the cost of density or make the ends feel unnecessarily thin.

James designs long layers around natural texture, where the client wants volume, how often the hair is worn up and whether it is usually air-dried, diffused, blown out or heat styled.

02Shapes + possibilities+

LONG HAIR WITH A CLEAR POINT OF VIEW

Long invisible layers

Subtle internal movement and weight management while preserving a strong overall silhouette.

Butterfly + face-framing layers

More visible movement around the face and upper shape with length retained through the back.

’90s long layers

Full, connected layering designed for volume, bounce and a polished blowout.

Long shag layers

More separation, crown movement and lived-in texture without committing to a short shag.

Curly long layers

Length and volume balanced around shrinkage, density and curl grouping.

Minimal one-length shape

A strong perimeter with only the refinement needed for movement and manageability.

03What determines suitability+

Perimeter + density

The ends are protected so the haircut feels abundant rather than over-layered.

Face framing

The shortest point and connection are chosen around features, natural parting and styling habits.

Volume placement

Layers begin where lift or movement is genuinely useful, not according to a generic diagram.

Versatility

Ponytails, air-drying, waves, curls and blowouts are considered in the same design.

04What happens at the appointment+

    Agree what stays

Layering and face framing are tailored to density, texture and the intended finish.

  4. 04

    Refine + demonstrate

The shape is checked dry and you are shown how to reveal its movement at home.

05Time, price + maintenance+

Timing

Most long haircuts: 60 minutes. Major reshaping, very long/dense hair or correction: 90 minutes.

Pricing

Haircut $150 · Transformation/extra time $220.

Maintenance

Most clients return every 3–6 months; some extend longer when the perimeter and internal shape are designed for longevity.

06Is this right for you?+
  • Clients who want a noticeable change without sacrificing meaningful length.
  • Fine hair needing restraint and thick hair needing intelligent movement.
  • Straight, wavy and curly long hair that currently feels heavy, anonymous or disconnected from the face.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

QUESTIONS,
ANSWERED.

01Can I have movement without losing length?+

Yes. The perimeter can be preserved while face framing and internal layers create a substantial visual change.

02Will layers make fine hair look thinner?+

Poorly placed layers can. James uses restraint, preserves the perimeter and places movement only where it contributes to the shape.

03How much maintenance do long layers need?+

Many long shapes hold for three to six months. A strong perimeter or shorter face frame may lead you to return sooner.

04Are butterfly layers the same as long layers?+

Butterfly layers usually describe more pronounced, shorter face-framing and upper movement. They are one version of a long layered haircut, not a separate technical system.

05Can long curly hair be layered?+

Yes. Shrinkage, density and where volume expands must be considered so layers create balance rather than unwanted width.

SUITABILITY FIRST

The goal is not simply long layers. It is long hair with shape, balance and enough personality to feel entirely your own.
